pump2

What do you guys think of these for moving waste oil, and or biodiesel? THe price seems right, and they are self priming.

Anybody already using these?

I think I'm going to get a couple, mainly for moving waste oil from the waste bin, to my collection barrel.

The one I've got is 110vac, uses a shaded pole motor that gets really hot if run more than a couple minutes. The pump works great, using roller-pistons that can be run dry, but don't tolerate any dirt or grit. WVO and biodiesel don't seem to effect the plastic or seal. I haven't tried methoxide or methanol. Mine pumped about a quart before it started smelling like hot wiring (5 minutes?). These 12-volt ones may not have the heat limitation mine did.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so discouraging. I think the Sureflow style comes in different sizes. Mine happen to be quite small; about 2 inches diameter and the middle layer is only about 1/4 inch thick. The middle layer determines the length of the rotor, and therefore how much it displaces. Thicker sections and longer rotors displace more. So would larger diameter pumps, like those ones look to be.
The rotor has a series of radial slots, 8 or 10, in each of which rides a cylinderical roller. The housing has a sort of eliptical internal profile that the rollers roll on. As they go 'round, they also go in and out of their slots, "sideways" so to speak, thus the pumping action. Clearances are necessarily tight to be self priming. I think it's the tight tollerances that make the rollers stick in one position when a piece of grit gets in.
2 gallons per minute is a useful rate for transferring small quantites of liquids. Note that these are rated at zero psi, if that matters. I'd worry more about the "intermittant duty" rating, if you want it to run more than a few minutes without overheating. I think my Facet fuel pumps are rated about that flow rate, and I've found them to be very handy for all kinds of things, especially when dirty liquids are envolved. Facet pumps can run continuously though.
Cheers,
JohnO

I've ordered a few of these. I'll let you all know how they work.

Hey, I repair floor machines that use Shureflow and flowjet pumps. These are bigger than the ones in the pics you provided though. 115volts, 100psi cont. duty, self priming. I always replace pumps that have gone bad in the seals and valve flaps, but never from a motor that has burned out. You can find them from Graco for about $75 a piece.
