I have a 330 gallon poly tote with about 100 gallons of clear WVO on top of about 125 gallons of white milky gooy crap. I am sucking off the top and I turned away to get something and came back and my sucker had fell into the nasty stuff and sucked up quite a bit of it.

Can I make bio from this junk?

In the past, one thing I have learned is that this white milky stuff contains quite a bit of water.

I circulated the oil for about 3-4 hours with a fan blowing on it and I believe I am going to do the heat and boil off method next just to be sure I have the water out.

Any thoughts?

thanks

You could pump it back into the bottom of the tote and go back to sucking good oil off the top. If you put the discharge hose all the way down to the bottom of the tote and pump slowly it shouldn't disturb the upper layer too much.

DO just what you say, de-water it with heat and circulating, then follow it with a titration to see how it comes out. May not be as bad as it looks, if it is, mix with the top layer stuff to get an "okay" oil.

What is that layer I see in my tote on the bottom? Is that hydrogenated oil or animal fats or both or something from outer space?

thanks

Nitroman,

Yes, it is HO, AF and stuff from outer space. I haven't had luck with it, but I haven't tried too hard either. It never separates, so I don't think it's water. My suspicion is that it's mostly animal fats. I haven't been able to even titrate it, so there's the first challenge. Anyone have been luck here?

Out in the country where I'm at, I set it out by the woods & it magically evaporates away with the wild animals (& probably some domestics as well). Gotta be careful, I don't want to attract wild hogs, we killed about 12 last year & they can really tear up a field if you don't take them out quick. But it does disappear quickly (coyotes, racoons, birds, possums, bugs, skunks, you name it!).

take a sample to the oven and heat the snot out of it,, if it clears up and has no popping,, it ain't got water in it. and Its probaly the 3 things you mentioned. which in your climate should be fine for summer fuel. Heat up a sample and titrate it, then do a Dr Pepper method batch from the crappest part of the tote. This will help you figure out how far you want to go with it, weather to make Bio from it or feed the wild life!

Heat the stuff up. Titrate it. If it is worth the trouble you can make a great summer fuel out of it.

If it is not worth the trouble (in your opinion)clean the stuff out of your tote and give it to Texas Tony. He will lure in some of those Texas sized wild hogs. He will shoot them with the biggest Texas rifle you have ever seen. I will barbecue them and we will eat the meat and turn the fat that renders out into "smoke house biodiesel".
