I'm looking for Methanol in the San Francisco North Bay. So far I've found: USA American Canyon, California Bailey Brothers 4901 Paoli Loop Rd. American Canyon, CA. 94503 707.255.6020 707.642.7744 bailey-01@hotmail.com http://www.baileybrothers01.com 15 gallon Methanol quantities @ $4.50 a gallon 55 gallons Methanol @ $3.50 a gallon Seems kinda high. I told him I was making BioDiesel. Wonder what he would have said if I was using it for racing fuel. He seemed to be hedging a bit on his answers. GulDam

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to make your methanol. You can just heat wood or even sawdust to a charcoal than while the charcoal is about red hot you can run steam over it (through it) to produce hydrogen and Carbon monoxide. This can be ran over a catalysis of copper, zinc oxide, and alumina with a little heat and pressure. You'll get methanol and some access gas. Just condense it and use a drying agent. Bingo now you have your own methanol for less than 25 cents or less a gallon if your wood is free and you dont count your labor. This works well if you using pure hydrogen and Carbon monoxide. If made from wood it might ruin your catalysis after a while because of contaminates. Don't waste any access gas released while making the charcoal and released at the final step. This gas can be use to run a gas motor since it will be mostly hydrogen and Carbon monoxide. You well need to change the timing on your gas engine. Before you think you wont need this access gas (water-gas) keep reading. you can plug and a single phase 240 or 120 volt induction motor to your wall outlet and use the gas engine to spin the induction motor faster in the same direction its already turning. This will make the motor start generating current. In many areas this will turn your meter backwards as it feeds current back into the grid. It will be running at the right frequency for your power grid. I wont go into any details on how or why it will be the right frequency. Just google it to verify it if you dont believe me. 100 pounds of wood can produce a lot of gas. This gas will be mostly hydrogen and Carbon monoxide. Whatever you do dont use a regular generator to feed power back to the grid. This wont work and you liable to blow a fuse and ruin your generator. An induction motor is probably the most common motors out there and you need to make no modifications to it if you use it in the way I mentioned. If you want to use it as a stand alone generator you will need to make modifications (like adding running capacitors). You can youtube it for some good examples how this is done. I could be wrong but believe you wont get near the power output if you use it as a standalone generator. If connected to the grid and the motor doesn't aromatically stop generating power on a power failure you will need to add a shut off safty device to make it turns off during a power failure otherwise you could electrocute someone working on power-lines not expecting current. charging for the drums is just gouging IMO. If its the metal drums like we get, they are crappy quality anyways compared to others I have seen. We either cut off the tops and use them for WVO collection or they go to the scrap yard, after a thorough airing out upside down

Here, its a $60.00 deposit for the drum, you get it back when you return it. I inquired about getting a tote and they want $1000 deposit for the SS tote and the methanol is no cheaper then buying it by the drum... crazy But they will deliver for free ![]() Cheers, Jon ___________________________ Simple schematic for a pump and heater control with a high limit Sensor for the biodiesel/glycerin layer

Just picked up a drum from Tarr, LLC. Price dropped to $143.00 (+tax, fees, etc.). That's just $2.60/gallon. I haven't seen it this low in a while. I thought it was during the winter when methanol prices went up. It was just a few months ago this same supplier sold drums for nearly twice what I paid today. Anyone know what's behind the current price decrease? Alvin '01 F250 7.3 4x4 Lariat Crew '95 Mercedes Benz E300 D

Wow. Our major supplier just hit us with a 10cent increase. I have asked them before about increase and decrease but they always tell me its supply and demand. We get ours from Nexeo , a Major supplier. If you buy it at 6 drums its $1.90 a gallon. www.turnerbiodiesel.com www.turnerindustriesinc.com Metal Fabrication and BioDiesel Products.
