Shelbyville Tennessee. Race Connection. Purchased a 55 gallon drum of methanol today. $125.00. This is commercial grade. The regular racing fuel is $150.00 but was out of stock. The salesman tells me the only difference in the two is the commercial grade is 95% instead of 99% and the racing fuel is filtered to a finer degree. Has anyone had any problems with 95% methanol?

I wish I could find a source for "commercial grade" methanol here in Florida! I think 95% purity would not be a problem.........Roy

My supplier said that he sales the small manufacturing companies around here. Maybe available at industrial chemical company instead of race shop.

We live on the MA/RI border and are hunting for Methanol too. Definitely interested in forming a co-op or something to get methanol cheaper. My husband is a chemist and has some reservations about storing large amounts in our barn as it is highly explosive. I worry about that too. Can anyone share thoughts/experiences. I am looking to be reassured! also, email me if you are interested in forming methanol co-op. thanks

ioknot , as far as finding methanol , check into some dirt track racing facilities or some racecar builders will carry it . All modified and late model race cars use it . If there is racing in your area , then there is fuel . I get my fuel either from the local petro dist. or a dirt track car builder in my area .
I store it in my garage in a corner away from any heat source covered , with the pump sticking out of the top . If you really wanted to get freaky you could build a box , and insulate it to keep its temp. steady . Get creative !!

I was just quoted today from what used to be Maine Lubrication Service of $233.47 per 55 gal drum!!!! The Worcester, Ma. store has been closed. I would have to drive to Manchester, NH for that price.

That's $4.24 a gallon!!!!!!

Anyone in the central Mass area know of a less expensive supplier?
