What you are looking for may not be called "methanol" there. The MSDS lists a series of synonyms used for the same product; perhaps it's right there under your nose but called something else.

Denatured alcohol is what we call methylated spirits here. It is ethanol with some methanol in it to stop people drinking it.
It also contains about 5% water. You can remove the water with anhydrous copper sulfate. You would have to use KOH with ethanol because NaOH isn't soluble in ethanol. I believe that it is much harder to make bio with ethanol. Methanol is also called methyl alcohol or carbinol Some motor sports use methanol as a fuel and some wood stains use it as a solvent. Good luck I live a bit out the way and I know how difficult it can be to source some things. |
