I bought and opened a bottle of red HEET today. The liquid was light brown and thicker than normal. It kinda looked like thick gasoline. It did still smell like alcohol. Have they changed their formula or something?

I got a new bottle of HEET last week and was more golden-amber in color...which is making it more difficult to tell what's affecting titration color, so I switched back to drugstore isopropyl alcohol.

Sounds like the same as me. My question is what is in there that is making it amber. Maybe it's not 99% alcohol any longer.

I think they changed the formula at the end of 2008. It was discussed here for a couple months if I recall correctly. I use 91% Isopropyl from the drug store. It works fine.

Just found this discussed earlier on the forums:

Seems like consensus is go with iso now instead.
