Methanol group purchase in Western New York. Through the western New York Biodiesel Coop , we will be buying Methanol , NaOH ,KOH, Sulfuric acid as a group purchase around mid to late July. The more we can buy , the better the price. Currently the price / gal. methanol is $2.90, Naoh is .45/ lb., KOH is .89/lb., and sulfuric acid is around $25 for 5 gal.Plus NYS tax and drum charge of $10 Get in touch with me at wnybiodieselcoop@verizon.net. The place I used to get KOH (Boyer) now wants a form on file so they can hand it over to Homeland Security if asked. Name, address, email, purpose of purchase -- all stuff they would have anyway, but this is conveniently gathered just for DHS and DEA.

I wouldn't be surprised if methanol starts being restricted, or at least documented, as well.

Do we really want any web passerby to have a VERY long list of where MANY homebrewers are getting their chemicals?

Clearly, sharing this information is helpful to all of us (at least for awhile) -- I wonder if there's another way to do it....

Exactly what I did! But now I have to find someone else, and if DHS has gotten to my NEW source, they'll want the same form, and I'll have to find someone ELSE, etc.

I bought methanol today for $4.20 a gallon at SNZ in Woodstock GA. I asked them about them keeping info for Homeland Security. They said they had to keep a list of names and addresses and sales records for all their methanol customers. They said they've never been asked to turn over any info yet but they keep it for audit purposes. My info has been in their file for two years already.

Jerry's Speed Shop, Toledo, Ohio does have 99.85% methanol Drag Racing Fuel at $125.00/ 55 gal. $15 core charge if you don't have your own barrel (steel or plastic OK) plus 7% tax. That makes it $2.72/ gallon, tax, core and methanol as of 5/30/2008. Was paying $6.76/gallon from chemical supplier ($371.80/55 gal.) Buy an aluminum drum multi-wrench from Jerry's for $12.95+ tax ! Worth every penny!

Checked MSDS sheets: Pure methanol and it does not have acetone or "Top End Oil" added.
