Probably a simple question, but does the glycerine always settle out of biodiesel if it gets mixed up again? I'm only making in bottles at the moment, and I loose a bit of bio that I have to leave in the bottle when syphoning it out.
Eventually I want to have a go at recovering the methanol so I'm saving the glycerine. If I pour it into another bottle, along with the bit of bio, eventually, I presume I would get a layer of bio on top of the glycerine that I can syphon out. Is this right?
Also, I'm having trouble disolving the caustic soda in the methanol, my caustic is in 2mm ish balls, not a powder, so it takes about 15min to disolve 8g in 200ml. I could grind it up, but this stuff's dangerous, so I dont want to do much with it! Tipping it into a jamjar of methanol and feeling it warming up in your hand is bad enough! Could someone post the link to the first mention of PaulG's method please?
With this method, does all the equipment and oil have to be water free, if you are adding a solution containing water, I'm confused on this bit.
thanks,
Simon

It doesn't take a lot of work to dissolve NaOH in methanol, just time. Be patient. Find something else to do. Just give it a slight shake every few minutes. Don't expect total solution to occur as there is always some sodium carbonate impurity which won't dissolve.
