I think the general feeling is that after several days settling, biodiesel is clean enough to put straight into your fuel tank as long as you do NOT draw your BD from the bottom of the settling tank. There seems to be a general agreement on the forum that an additional cheap see-thru fuel filter prior to the main filter is a good investment.
Be aware also that many people have reported fuel filters quickly clogging up for the first little bit as the biodiesel cleans out the crud from the tank. Are you talking 200 deg F or C? Almost all the excess methanol will be out of the BD at around 95 deg c. After that temp you are still able to drive off more methanol mixed with a little water for quite a few deg more, but it comes out very slowly. If you are not going to wash your BD You can either heat to remove methanol or just let it "Breathe" in a container that is not sealed tight for a few days. I do not think you want to boil your BD. Getting it too hot will damage it so I have discovered. The alternative to removing soap is to leave it in. (washing V not washing). Hi Rayholan
Stick it in your tank and enjoy. Tell everyone you meet that you are running your Vdub on homemade BioDiesel and watch their reaction. No need to let it breath, I done that once with a good red wine and it made no noticeable difference whatsoever. Sticking with the red wind theme, You should always lay your wine down, I find laying it on the floor of the car on the way home from the bottle shop is long enough. Always let the wine breath after removing the cork, Or for those impatient people like me start using mouth to mouth as soon as possible. Regards Dhill |

let settle two days, then filter 5 micron-see yellowbiodiesel.com no probs, and dont heat past 180f or you will make mono glycerides, which darken and thicken the oil.
bosch injectors dont rewally care though. |
