I decided to switch from KOH to NaOH so that I could have some glycerin to make bar soap with. Everything went fine, and then we got an unexpected cold snap. My batch had reached the point of separation, and then everything gelled. I left it alone for a couple days, and finally it warmed back up. The mixture reached about 60F, and the bio on top has liquified, but the glycerin is in a semi solid state, and won't drain from my processor.

Do I just need to get this stuff heated up to liquefy the glycerin?

NaOH based byproduct WILL turn into a solid at room temperature if you leave it long enough. So, in future, make sure you drain the byproduct before everything cools off.

Mine goes straight into the tank of the still for de-mething.

You will remove the methanol thoroughly and completely before turning it into soap, right???

Finest regards,

Actually, it started to gel before it had even set long enough to fully separate.

Once I got it heated up, the glycerin melted. I continued to mix everything for a few hours, and today I was able to drain off the glycerin. Thanks guys!

Yes, I do plan to demeth before making soap.
