I live in the southeast in the lower Blue RIdge Mountains so it gets cold now and then. This fall has been much colder than normal. FIrst year operating on bio.
I had some gelling problems and had to replace a couple filters.
Could I wrap the tank with a heat strip to keep the fuel warm on cold nights. I'm thinking somehow attach it into the engine block heater plug so the block heater keeps the engine area warm and the strip keeps the tank warm.
Is this too simple a fix to work?

The solution you are looking at would work IF there were only two points to be concerned with, but the area(s) most likely to gel up first are not the fuel tank, but the lines and filters as that is where the lightest concentration of biodiesel is found.

I would also just mention that lots of fuel tanks are plastic and most heat tapes are not designed with that in mind. Don't melt a hole in your tank or burn your vehicle down to the ground.

Also, most heat tapes are NOT designed to operate under insulation.

It can get complicated.
