A flat answer to that question doesn't really do it justice IMO. If you live in an area where it gets stinking cold (like here) and your fuel will be subjected to that environment, meaning it will most likely freeze and thaw then it will keep right through winter without a hitch, unless it is not fully cleaned of the glycerine residuals. The cold/warm thing will precipitate any residual glycerine out of the mix. This gives excellent quality fuel but does allow a layer of gunk on the bottom of the container. I've often wintered biodiesel without any issues.
Now, on the other hand if you live somewhere where it is not so cold as to be life threatening outside then a fugicide mightht be a good idea, although I am sure those in those clims will have more to say about it. Now, to contradict what I've just said; I've got two farms running on my B100. They store in warm areas over the winter; one for the boiler and the other waiting for Spring and neither have experienced any problems. Last winter my reactor house was heated (not real hot but warm enoughto work in) and the biodiesel I stored in there saw no problems. I now run B100 all year in my two tank system so I need it to be liquid :-) My .02 **My reactor/processor :B100WH.com **The Colaborative Biodiesel Tutorial **B100 Heated Winter System ** Biodiesel Glycerine Soap - Make & sell soap from Biodiesel Glycerine |

Yeah... I'm in Denver and it does get cold here in winter months especially at night. Sounds like it should be OK then - thx

Hey Legal
Did you run the two tank B100 system last Winter? or will this be the first? I am in the process of putting together my first Dodge dually seen here Since I just got it and Fall is here in northern New Mexico I decided to make a few more batches of biodiesel and see if I can run the truck on homemade fuel this Winter and try to make some of the investment in the truck back by doing a little hauling. It has already been cold enough here to cloud my B100, so I am considering installing a veggie tow tank system I scored used and perhaps as you have done insulate my bioshed for processing in the cold. Can't say just now if it will be worth all the work setting up for cold weather or whether I shpould be patient and wait for Spring.
