Hey all,

I am swapping out the Renault 2.1L that is currently in my 1986 Jeep Cherokee for a 5 cyl. MB diesel. I'm all set on the engine, and can mate it to a manual transmission from another MB, but I will lose the 4WD if I do so. I was wondering if there was any way to maintain 4WD capabilities? Will the 617a mate up to an older G-series transmission...or a UniMog...or...? Cost is an issue, of course, so I'm looking for a reliable yet cost-effective solution. If I have to go to 2WD, then I'm willing to make that concession, but it would be great to keep it 4WD if I can.

Should I be posting this in the Misc. forum?

Thanks.

Check out this thread- om617 into a 4runner
Different vehicle, of course, but he shows that it's fairly simple to make an adapter.
When I find a donor engine, I'm going to try and do this in our TJ with an AX-15.
Check out the rest of that forum- great info there!

Hope that helps,
Los

See if there is the option of running a divorced transfer case. This way you can pick and chose what ratios you want in the transfer case with out having it physically attached to the transmission.
