I just purchased another 240D and this cars had the dash lights working. Well for awhile... Does anyone know what is the common problem that causes the dash lights to not work. This is my 2nd 240 with no dash lights.... It has to be something simple.
Thanks,

AJ Dance

its the ceramic piece on the back of the insrument panel. that black turning thing on the front to make the lights go up or down connests to it. you can take it off with a phillips head and theres two coonectors. you can take 2 female coonects and bend them and put them on if you dont want ot buy a one one. if you a new one on be careful becaus eits cermaic na dcna break easily.

There is a rheostat on the back of the instrument cluster that dims and brightens the dash lights. They often go bad. First try turning the knob on the left on the cluster a few times. Sometimes they get dirty and turning it will fix it. If that doesn't help then the rheostat is likely dead. To fix it you can solder a jumper wire across the rheostat which will by pass the rheostat and just make the lights set to the brightest which is were they usually are set anyway, since the light is pretty dim.
