anybody ever try to put a mercedes turbo dsl into a vw vanagon? those vw dsl engines always seemed underpowered in the buses, like driving a brick into the wind. any info, or ideas people may have would be appreciated... thanks!

I think any diesel MB engine would be much too big for the rear of vanagon. You'd either have to cut out the firewall, or add onto the rear of the van. If I were going to go through the process of custom fitting a diesel engine into one I would go the TDI route. I've driven several vanagon TDI conversions, and they are a blast. Much more scoot than the original. Lots of good looks on the road when you blow past someone in a vanagon. Check out www.Greaseworks.org for all your TDI vanagon needs.
