Oh... I like bicycles (pedal powered ones).
And try to avoid escalators.
Although, I must admit occasionally needing to dust the cobwebs off of the bike.
There have been discussions about adapting diesel engines to motorbikes... If I remember right, the Motoguzzi (or perhaps BMW) used a longitudinal water cooled engine that allowed many swap options.
There are a few V-Twin diesels that have been squeezed into Harley-type bikes.
I'm not sure about Diesel Mopeds, but there are a few small single cylinder air-cooled diesel generator engines out there.
A number of electric bicycle hub motors are available and could be mounted on a variety of bicycle frames... I was actually wondering if they'd be good for solar vehicle apps.
Moto Guzzi are famous for their air cooled transverse V twin. A tricky beast when winding through sharp bends whilst under power.
See this page:
All longitudinal mounted engines on MotoGuzzi frames. This isn't to say, of course, that there isn't a transverse mounted version.
Do you have that backwards? I could visualize the effects of the kick of the torque from a longitudinal mounted engine.
I suppose I was thinking of water cooled (on some of the conversions), but air cooled does make sense for the donor engine.
Here are some more conversions:
