I would like to stress his reccomendations on what to do BEFORE contacting the local fire department specifically item #12. I was one of those "line officers" that Dave eludes to, to have your first conversations with. The "white hats" he refers to are either the fire marshals or a chief officer at some level depending on the size of the town you live in.

Actually, forget all the greater cause stuff. Simply think of yourself first. Would you be willing to put you or your famlies safety at risk for a $50 tank of fuel?
