Looking for a mentor with bio and perhaps help me find a bio car as well.

Yep, I'm out in Sandwich. Just made my first test batch though, so I'm certainly no mentor!

1st batch looks good though. Can't wait until it dries so I can see if I made real bio or just labor intensive soap...

Have a chemistry degree, but you do not need one to make this stuff !

I'm also in Aurora/ Tri-cities area.
I'm interested in meeting other diesel car* peeps who're interested in trying out running some BioDiesel . Actually, you can try it out by going to Feece Oil Co. in Batavia. They're a block east of Kirk Rd on Hubbard, and have a primitive setup in back, for B100, i.e. 100% BioDiesel, that works in any diesel engine. Last month it was $5.75/gal, + 6 % sales tax.
So you know, commercial B-D is considered a premium diesel fuel, price-wise.
I have some knowledge, experience and processing equipment, and am looking for an appropriate space,
and collaborators to operate. ( e.g. NOT your garage,shed,etc)
Maybe if there's some interest here, I could plan a little get-together this summer to talk about it...
We will need :
1.) a modestly sized room in an industrial-type facility.
2.) a few interested peeps who drive diesel cars*
3.) interest in collecting used veggie oil from local restaurants.
4.) ability to work with others harmoniously toward common goals.

* Truckers also welcome ! There will be a very limited quantity produced, so don't expect to fill your tanks- But be aware that even a relatively small % of B-D is beneficial for your engine. And the cost would be quite reasonable, too.

We've got a couple of classes coming up in Grayslake at the end of the month:
one-day Introduction to Biodiesel Homebrewing (which is a hands-on test batch making class to step you through the chemistry, along with seeing a couple of different Appleseed biodiesel processor setups)

and
Outgrowing The Appleseed: larger-batch considerations - for those considering the 200-gallon to 1000 gallon per batch scale.

These classes are sponsored by The Biodiesel Co-op at Prairie Crossing. Prairie Crossing is quite an interesting place in the first place- a 'green development' with really beautiful energy-efficient houses, an on-site organic farm, public transportation access, and school. www.prairiecrossing.com

Their co-op has been working really well for the last few months, which is quite an unusual thing, so you might want to come check that out and meet those members to see how they did things. I know they're always interested in connecting with other Chicagoland folks.

I'm south a bit, down by Kankakee, IL. I'm on a farm with plenty of room in a PRIMITIVE tool shed. I've made my first batch with waste oil. I'll check this morning to see if it cleared up or not. I made it without titration. I have a very interested intelligent friend who may help me, but would welcome any advice and I'd be more than interested to see others equipment. I'm also in the area in batavia just getting started and went to Girl Marks class this weekend !! I have to say it was awsome still trying to put it all together . just got home shouldn't be killing time on the computer but had to have a look . I have no garage !!! Sucks but I have a plan have any of you gone up to check out the co-op in Greys lake ? If you need experience that would be a good start !!!

Im looking to split a 55 gallon barrel of methanol with 2 or 3 people. A barrel of methanol will make about 250 gallons of biodiesel, i really dont need that much.

I have the processing equipment, so if you need me to make you your batch i can do that.
