Greets All,
Any other brewers in Boise area out there? I'm trying to find some less expensive chemical suppliers and would like to know who others are using.

United Oil $4.25/gallon methanol
Technichem $1.50/lb NaOH

There are a few threads here about Boise. Here is one I started a while back. There are sevearal people brewing in the Boise area. JGK has a pretty sweet setup. And lots of knowledge about brewing.

Just found the forum this morning. I've been making biodiesel in boise for about 4 years, but my system is a hack job. I'd love to see a quality system. Anyone care to show me what they have?

I've heard rumors about a co-op forming in town. True?

I haven't heard about a co-op forming, but I don't think you could say I'm in the loop locally. The only reason I can see doing so is to get lower prices on methanol, KOH, etc.

3 of us are about to go in on a Biopro 190 together. Just getting the barrels set up first and making sure we have plenty of oil coming before taking the big leap.

Does anyone have information concerning licenses or permits for collecting and hauling wvo? I haven't been able to find anything.

How's everyone doing locally? Seems activity has picked up a lot lately with some people not having a clue what they are getting into.

I've "lost" a few local sources. I can't really say lost because I've just been occassionally collecting from restaurants with no real committment. Someone else has come along and got the committments. I'm not interested in trying to take someone else's sources. Who is collecting along State St? Let's work together.

Are they now paying for the oil? While at Buster's (in Eagle) one day for lunch, I asked about their oil and they said they are getting paid for it. Oil isn't near enough scarce in the valley to be paying for it.

I had someone fill up my barrel with crud at a place in Nampa. Since that person takes forever to collect the oil, I just happen to help my self to his barrel if I like what I see. I can't believe this behavior has now reached us.

Hey all.
Im working on a cross country documentary to highlight the grassroots side of alternative fuels production.
I will be heading through that area later this week and over the weekend and wanted to see if any of you would be interested in participating.
Please check out the website and email me back
thanks

Checking in again...

If anyone is looking to buy methanol in the near future, let's try to do a bulk buy together on some 55 gallon drums. Price just went up to $5/gal, but I hope that we can get a bulk discount next time.

Where did you get it for that price? How much did you buy at once?

I've been curious about looking into oil collection in Twin Falls in the past as I have a ton of family around there. Are there many brewers in TF?

i only bought 55 gallons, if i buy a 4 drum pallet it would be 3.40 per gall. Univar in Nampa. As for oil collection here, I only have 3 places that i am collecting at, and i have asked at quite a few others and they are already giving their oil away to someone else who is making bio. i need more oil right now to keep the biopro running.

olli - Thanks for the info. I gave them a call last week. I'll definitely be buying from them in the future. They have a quantity discount for up to 8 barrels. It must have gone up since you went, though, as the 8 barrel discount was $3.53/gal if I remember correctly.

Can anyone in the Boise area recommend a mix ratio for cold weather Bio? I want to start producing Bio-Diesel here in Alaska, but understand there is some considerable gelling once the temp gets to 35. What is everyone using as a mixer?

I'm running b50 right now. I'm going to make up a few jars of various blends and stick them outside to monitor where my bio starts clouding up.
