stainless tanks - great!! what is the plumbing made from? black iron - ok for a while but it will fail! plastic - great chemical resistance but poor heat tolerance..forget methanol recovery. forget simple thermostats. stainless(316 or better) - most likely the best. I'll be moving towards this as other fittings fail. insulation is your friend..massive amount of heat are not required. it does help to maintain a constant temp but even this isn't required. consider that an acid stage might run into 36-72hrs range think about 'blue pump'..whose blue pump. I have some that at NT, HF, and Goulds. guess which is better? right the Goulds. 3/4hp and 60GPM..beat both NT pumps and the HF pups. NT pump are the 1" and 1.5" pumps. HF is only 1". what is your venting system like? does it trap methanol? it should -dkenny '84 bluebird school bus, DD8.2L turbo 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD 99 dodge 2500 5.9l 24v..-mine everything run B100 when its warm enough |

Hey dkenny,
my plumbing is a mixture of black pipe grey plastic barbed fittings and lots of clear chemical tubing. my little blue pump is from b100 the 12 gpm unit. my square pretrement tank has no pump and no heat but lots of ports of various sizes, all plugged except the bottom one which i use to drain junk. it's a 2" big boy! i have tons of excellent insulation installed on my main processor. now back to the original question.???? should i use my pretreatment tank or my main processor to do the acid step? pretreatment tank or processor tank thats the question? thanks PAO II PS ever notice that conversations back and forth seem to always stray away from the core issue in question? this is not a slam. just an observation we all do it. because we are not face to face. |

why not setup it to use both tanks..I choose option 3..
black iron will hold up to acid so you need to upgrade the plumbing or add plumbing..hum both sound good to me.. you'll want a larger pump using either tank. the little blue pump is too small for that size tank..at max flow you're only getting 1 turn in 5-6 minutes..should be less than 2.. do both tanks have good draining? and venting? you'll also want to setup methanol recovery.. -dkenny '84 bluebird school bus, DD8.2L turbo 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD 99 dodge 2500 5.9l 24v..-mine everything run B100 when its warm enough |

Hey dkenney,
To answer your questions. I don't do methanol recovery. I'm new to the game and have put that on the back burner so to speak. Hey would a back burner do the job? pun You listed option 3? Use both tanks? both tanks for what? Both as processors? The pretank is square and yes it has a 2" drain as I listed but no pump. Please forgive me but confusion is starting to creep in. I am trying to be logical and go step by step. I do like the idea of having two processors!!! The acid thing is not so exciting since I'm new a hear lots of problems in the acid area. but two processors side by side. wow that's a real idea. maybe a double barreled two tank double base processor with dual exhaust hey we're cooking now. I may have to by a bigger truck or let the air out of my tires so i will need more fuel right me back man let's get real or email me at pamover3@vuewireless.com or call me at 501 230 4784 thanks PAO II |

sure acid not prefect..but since i wrote my method in '06..and roughly 1.5batches/avg per week since..I had 3 that did convert to biodiesel. sure there have been some bumps..but how many base only batches have you made without problems?
yep you got it..setup both for processing.. if you're in a rush use what you have! just start work on a larger pump and removing the plastic..and or think about to failure analysis..thermostats fail and can leave the heat on..bad with plastic in the pumping circuit.sure you'll need some plastic for a site gauge. I still have some this this. another way to work the acid stage..heat the oil the turn off the heat. this way you'll only need to be around during the heating. -dkenny '84 bluebird school bus, DD8.2L turbo 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD 99 dodge 2500 5.9l 24v..-mine everything run B100 when its warm enough |

OK dkenney,
I read you loud and clear. by the way i have the coolest sight glass in the work. it is a 2" diameter German glass cylinder with 1/2" npt port on each end. It hold 2 liters of bio and is plumbed into my system. it was an explosion proof housing for a light used on high speed printing presses. I have an extra one two! Can I really use a square tank as a processor? Will it not have dead spots? It has a hinged top so i would have to come up with a seal. bye the way. How many water heater themostats have you heard of failing? I know it's possible but it would seem rare. I've never personally seen it and I have lived in several houses. I do have a nice used Red Lion PID controller. I also have a large stainless electrical box. Maybe I will set it up. Presently my pump and my heater are powered on/off with a 30A light switch. simple enough. thanks again I will throw all the info into my hair top computer and sleep on it. KOH arrives tomorrow so lots of base/base right now to catch up on fuel demands. bye PAO II |

I've replaced 4 in the last year, but these were on actual water heaters. one the square tank you need to have several returns to help reduce the dead spots. the hinged top lay a bead of silicon rubber on the edge and weight the top with a small weight(the top itself might be enough)..the setup should be vented so the top will see no pressure should the worst happens. -dkenny '84 bluebird school bus, DD8.2L turbo 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD 99 dodge 2500 5.9l 24v..-mine everything run B100 when its warm enough |

Hey dkenny,
the bottom of the square tank just has one large 2" threaded coupling (stainless) I think i'm going to get creative and build a 4 quadrant output that will blow down into each corner in an effort to roll the oil top to bottom instead of going round and round. kind of like kneeding bread folding over and over forcing the oil to climb the sides and drop back down. would that work? how say ye? hey i picked up 100 lbs of KOH today and i'm making fuel again!!! the price went up $97.20 for 50 lbs. (tax included) $1.94/lb wow this same supplier sold it to me 60 day ago for $59.50 for 50 lbs. Is Mr Obama redistributing the wealth already? bye PAO II PS I VOTED FOR THE FIGHTER PILOT! |
