I have made several batches with acid in my appleseed. I do not think corrosion is an issue. The acid / methanol mixture is introduced ahead of the pump impeller very slowly. It is vigorously mixed with the oil by the pump and immediately begins the chemical process with the FFA. In the few seconds it takes the mixture to travel up the tube to fall into the tank it is already dilute and chemically altered.

Norman,
What kind of pump and what materials (black, galvanized, plastic) are plumbing made of? How hot did you run the reaction and are you using the electric heating element? Thanks.

Using the standard Applesed design with black iron pipe, the HF clear water pump and electric 110 V heating elements. I run the acid phase at 135 to 140 dgrees, and the base at 130 to 135.
