I just did 2 titraions using the same KOH solution & oil, 1 with iso had a level 8 and the other with meth with a level of 5. Which one I could count on and why they defer. Right now I'm running a acid stage it mixed for 3hrs and now it's gonig into it 2hr since it stop mixing.

Have you ran a blank, ie just titrate the solvent. Sometimes you will find a significant titration. If you do you will need to account for it when you test the samples.

I did but not sure I did it correctly I but 10 ml in a beaker add 2 drops of red it instantly turn blueish I swirled it for a few minutes and the color tone down some added .02 of solution and turned purple I then added the oil and it turn yellow heated it slightly and add 2 more drop of red and used the solution to finish the titration

What indicator dye are you using. You mentioned the colors red, bluish,purple and yellow. Some of the indicator dyes promoted by a few companies require a color chart to get the titration right. Most of us here use simpler indicator dyes that change between two colors.

for instance Phenolphthalein goes from clear to a pinkish lavender.

Phenol red goes from yellow to red.

and turmeric goes from yellow to dark red.

turmeric can be found in the spice section of most grocery stores. it what I use. is easy and cheap

The label says (High Range pH indicator solution) from aquarium pharmaceuticals inc. I bought this at a pet shop the only thing they have around here but I think it's Phenolphthalein I used the word "red" because I couldn't remember the spelling of it. I have used it for 5-6 months now for making BD I always use meth for titration with NaOH solution and it did change to pinkish lavender. But now I'm trying it with ISO and KOH now the label says to use 5 drops but I've been using 2 for BD.

It isn't phenolthalein. This stays clear up to Ph 8.2 then turns pink.

Ok Thanks dva for the heads-up I mail order a bottle of Phenolphthalein this week. Does anyknow of a place on the east coast for this?

Can I use 70% ethyl alcohol (instead of 95%) to dissolve Phenolphthalein powder for my 1% Phph solution?
