I've been wondering what is the best way to add the acid.

I'll be mixing the feedstock and methanol first and want to add the acid either by pumping it in the top of the reactor and letting it drop into the liquid or injecting it into the recirculating piping.

Adding the acid to the oil undiluted will cause "burns" in the oil. You will end up with dime to quarter sized scabs floating in the oil that must be dealt with. Add the acid to the methanol first, then inject the mixture, slowly.

I have a barrel rocker that I use to lay my 55 gallon drum on its side. I put the carboy under the spout and open it. As the methanol flows out into the carboy I add the 225ml (or whatever you require) slowly to the stream. WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR. These two do not like each other and are scavenging madly for each others body parts. OK, what I am trying to say is there will be some intensive boiling and potentially harmful fumes while mixing. Now add the meth / acid mixture just like you would your meth / lye mixture.

I add it to the oil directly but slowly and spread it around (I've got an open top tank). do a test run first and if all goes well do a real batch. I've not had any floaters or other problems.
