why sulphuric acid reduces more free fatty acids than hydrochloric acid?

I have read papers where they esterified with HCl, but H2SO4 has the property of taking up water, which helps drive the equilibrium.

Also, HCl is a gas, so "hydrochloric acid" always has a lot of water, much more than in concentrated H2SO4.
