I had some oil that titrated at 7.8 so I thought I would try the acid method. I followed DKennys method except I used 10% methanol in the acid stage like FATTA. After 2 hours, the acid method brought the titration down to 3.8. At 3 hours, it was 3.0. I added the KOH and Methanol as described by DKenny. After 2 hours of processing I let it settle over night and drained the Glycerine. The bio is not clear as I expected. It looks more like 5% prewash biodiesel. It looks like it has a brown tinge. I did 3/27 and failed. It titrates at .4. How do I reprocess?

30 gallons oil at 7.8 Koh titrate
3 gallons Meth and 113g sulfuric acid
3 hours process at 140deg = 3.0 titrate

Add 3 gallons methanol and 44.2 oz (1224 grams) KOH = failed 3/27 with titration of 0.4

Did you use 113g(grams) or 113ml of H2-SO4?

Looks like you used a 50% - 50% methanol for acid -base should be 60% - 40%
Did you drain at all or just go right to the base stage

I used 113ml. I used the 50/50 method because both Fatta and DKennys recipe called for that.
I did not drain for the base stage. Both FATTA and DKennys recipe said not to drain between. Did I miss something or interpet this incorrectly?

no mine doesn't call for 50/50 its 60/40.

in your case not draining is fine, since the mix you'd like to drain most likely floated to the top.

the titration at the end of the base stage is meaningless...

reprocess

50ml of methanol per liter of oil
1.5g of KOH per liter of oil
use the initial volume.

and by failing the 27/3 do you mean you had fallout with the methanol at 68F?
