Hello
Up to this time, I have been doing an acid esterification on my WVO in my Appleseed processor followed immediately by the regular process. The acid esterification requires 12% of the total methanol and then the regular process uses the remaining 8% of the meth. with the KOH mixed in.

Now I want to try doing the acid esterification followed by the 80/20 process.I was wondering if anyone else does this and if they can tell me the procedure they use.

Thanks

Generally people have found that doing esterification produces higher conversion quality biodiesel than if you'd not done esterification, so I'd like to know if you actually need to improve conversion or if yours works OK without the extra step.

Doing base-base two-stage may raise the amount of soap you form doing this, so there may be a drawback.

Thanks for the reply.

I do the esterification because the only oil I can get titrates at 9 or higher.

sometimes my base stage doesn't pass the 27/3 test. So I run a reprocess on the batch after draining out some the glycerin.

I cannot say if more soap is made because I haven't kept the best records on yield and glycerin qty. sorry

For what it's worth, my oil typically titrates 15 to 20 (KOH). I use acid stage at 13% methanol and base at 7%. Typical soap conent in my raw unwashed, but settled (3 to 7 days) fuel is 1300 to 1400 ppm.

Horn,

I am having trouble with my bio diesel making fuel. The glycerine levels are double what they should be and the 3/27 test mostly fail. I am new to this. I use the single step process with too many fails. Would the 2 step be an answer to having less fails with less than perfect oil?

thanks, dc
