Acid treatment
Good day all, new to the forum and biodiesel.

Just trying to understand the reasons for acid esterfication. I believe it is to lower oil with high FFA levels into something more manageable, right?

What iff you have virgin oil? Say pure soybean oil. Is there any reason whatsoever to do an acid treatment first, or is that just overkill and pointless?

If so, what is the cutoff for when you'd do an acid treatment first? 4%? 8%?

The cut off point for doing AE will differ from person to person but it is usually in the region of titration levels of 8 to 10 KOH (5 to 7 NaOH)

If you take 50% of a KOH titration as the % of FFA's you will not be far off.

I sometimes use new soya oil, it titrates at 0.3 KOH
