I heard someone say he got it from the hardware store...any ideas? I know this is what battery acid is, but I can't recall if the concentration is high enough. Where do you guys get your acid? Thanks.

I have found it difficult to get except as battery acid about 30%.
I concentrated the acid from old dud batteries.

THIS IS DANGEROUS
Charge old dead batteries until the electrolyte density comes up(hydrometer).
Tip the whole battery into a plastic tub and empty(Goggles/Gloves).
Collect and filter the lead etc out.
Settling for a few days gets the finer particles out. If it has a gray tinge it still has lead in it.

Heat the acid(outside) at first due to the water content it will boil when the boiling stops it will start to fume that should be about 95% which should do. The fumes are really nasty a mask would be good.

Now the bad news the liquid acid can blind and cause nasty burns.
The lead in the batteries is toxic.
The fumes created when heating are extremely toxic and can kill.
The heating must be done outside.
A lab with a fume hood would be better.
glasses Gloves apron and a bucket of water as a wash.

Lowe's sells it as a drain cleaner. It's about $9 per quart, and I think it's 95%. It has some black crap in it probably to make it visible.

I use it to acidify my wash water if I get emulsion.

I was looking at Ace Hardware and found the Rooto brand of sulfuric acid. After a bit of digging around for some % of acid I found a MSDS sheet that said it was 93.2%. Is that the same brand you use Dkenny?

no. i use the hot power from Ace, but that should work just fine. you might need slightly more acid than the formula calls for. I'd suggest starting with the formula as is and tweak it after you've made a couple of batches. Its better to use less acid than too much.
