Several years ago I tried the "foolproof" acid method. Naturally, it did not work and I swore off of the acid method.
Recently I got stuck with some oil (and I use the word loosely) that titrates at 21 KOH. Black cruddy stuff. Times are changing and it is hard to get good oil, so I took it.
Here is my recipe:

1. Pan tested and only very few tiny bubbles
2. I heated to 130 degrees F. (plastic container so I cant go any higher) Volume is 190 liters.
3. 21 - 3 = 18
18 x .2 = 3.6
3.6 x 190 = 684
Mixed 684 concentrated H2SO4 into 5 gallons methanol. I used 5 gallons because that is the size of my mixing container.

4. I am mixing right now and it seems to have stableized at 11. I have mixed for 4 hours. It is still mixing as we speak.

My questions are: Do I need to add more alcohol?
Settle, drain, and then use more acid?
Just mix longer and see what happens?

but settle, drain, remix then titrate again..it should drop some more..

if needed rerun the acid stage based on the new titration.
