I was very interested in the straightforward advice when luckily I read this recipe submitted in 2007 -by member antifuel 1 !! because I have just made my first batch of fuel out of wvo which titrated at
7. I used KOH as catalist and put in 1.5 Kilo with 21% methanol and processed the 100 litres of oil at 57c for an hour & quarter. I did the methanol test which left very little deposit but there was a tiny bit of deposit which I think is maybe soap??? I di a water test (50% fuel +50% water) and was disapointed to see an intermediate layer about a third the thickness of the top fuel layer. Today however this intermediate layer has diminished by about 50% & there is more fuel now in the jar. I hope I can follow antifuels advice & recipe with the sulphuric acid in the hope that it will reduce the soap content in my fuel. I may be able to get rid of the soap by careful washing I hopoe but I am letting the fuel settle till tomorrow before trying to wash it- (I processed it tuesday evening) I would like to ask though did antifuel 1 use 32 oz of KOH in his 40 Gall batch or was it NaOH. I chose to use KOH because although it may cost a bit more the plusses in regard to very very easy dissolving in the Methanol and the fluid state of the by-product seem to be a good choice for me. Please will you advise the percentage of KOH in my oil titrated at 7 ---- or perhapse a formulae or even a table stating the percentage of KOH required for this 'acid' process. I must say thanks a million to all for this very educational site. P.S. May I ask -- Where abouts is 'Eve' in the states ??

presurejet: I used NaOH. I do not water wash my fuel, I heat it and air bubble it at the same time { 180-220 deg F.} depending on the humidity at the time. hotter when humidity is high cooler when humidity is low.
