Made a batch of soap from one of Knice-N-Clean's soap making kits yesterday & today.

I'd been meaning to make it for a while & finally got low enough on my soap that I needed to get it made. I used Eucalyptus essential oil for fragrance & it smells great!

My 7 year old daughter say's they smell like cough drops.
Got a cold? Try one of these!

Anyway, here's some pictures from the fun.

First I cut up the big glycerin block:

Then I stuck it in my soap making pot:

Melted it all down:

(This is demethylated glycerin so all I have to do is melt it. I brought it up to about 180-190 & let it all melt).

Added the rest of the stuff that came with the kit & brought it to trace (sorry, didn't snap any pictures during that time...I was busy stirring).

Got the mold ready:

- It comes with a box that makes a great mold and some waxed paper to keep the liquid in

Poured it into the mold:

Let it set up overnight & pulled it out of the mold:

(My kids joked that it was a giants big bar of soap).

Cut it up into bars:

And stuck it back in the box:

I'll let it cure for a while in the box, but with it being somewhat hot-processed, it's pH level is already pretty good.

So, now I'm all stocked back up and every time I use a bar I can clear my sinus's too!

Graydon,
Looking really good!

Eucalyptus does kind of smell like cough drops. I've found a few good blends with Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and Lavender. We use that combo for a pet soap we have available.

With the temps we use to "cold process" and the fact that most of our BDG is already soap you are right it is more like Hot processing. If you allowed it to cook for about 2 hours it would be considered hot processed and could be used right away. Just always test the pH of any soap, cold processed or hot processed, before you use the soap.

Glad it worked out!

Congrats Z-Man!

Mines been great so far! The glycerin content in this batch must be really high as these bars have really helped my dry skin out. A lot less flaking and it's calmed down my psoriasis quite a bit.
(even more so than the last batch of Bio glycerin soap I was using).

The Eucalyptus scent wasn't nearly as strong a few days later and the bars lather up great! Makes them great to use for shaving too.

Z-Man,
A really good scent for liquid hand soap is orange oil. It's much less expensive than the other essential oils and also adds cleaning ability to your soap.

If you want you can send me some of your BDG and I will run a SAP for you and if you want I can help you formulate a recipe with the properties you are looking for.

Happy soaping Smile

How do you figure orange oil adds cleaning ability? Confused

There are oils that are beneficial for certain things like tea tree oil as antiseptic but never heard that about orange oil. Citation?
