i did a blank test then added my 1ml of oil,started with my .01% NaOH and it came to 7 drops wich is .2 of a cc is that right???so that would be 3.5g +.2 =3.7g for a liter?that cant be right this stuff looks like 15-40 out of my power stoke with 6000 mile over a oil change?????all i hear about is you shouldnt use oil that test over 6ml to 7ml if thats the case then i have gold,300gal of gold a week!!!!

Rexver, it looks like youve been to JTF. First, you need 5g as base amount, not 3.5g; second, its 0.1% NaOH, not 0.01%. 1ml of oil is a thousandth of a litre, and 1ml of 0.1% NaOH contains one thousandth of a gram of NaOH. So, the amount of mls 0.1% NaOH you add to get the turmeric to change the colour of your 1ml oil in isoprop is the amount of grams NaOH you add per litre of oil, plus the 5g base amount. Simple. Much better if you can get something which will measure a millilitre - counting drops is very inaccurate.
