I'm working on my second batch of biodiesel right now (it's cooling in the processor). My first one looked milky after I used my clear water pump to start drying it (after washing it six times and having the last two come out clear). When I titrated it, the result came out at 0.5. Three times.

A few questions for the experienced:

- Is 0.5 a realistic result, or is my test result likely off?
- How long should I mix the oil / methoxide? I had done four hours at 130F.
- If I can't get the biodiesel clean, can I somehow reprocess it?
- What happens if you put more KOH in your methanol than the titration calls for?

A titration of .5 seams low. The oil I use varies between 2.3-2.8. .5 would be hardly used oil. I mix between 1 and 2 hours at ~140 degrees. That will include 20-30 minutes to mix in the methoxide. You can reprocess to salvage the batch. search reprocessing on this forum. I use NaOH but others here claim KOH can be over used without negative effect.

My oil titrates between .5 and 1.2., KOH. Usually under1.

How often do they change the oil? If it is more than once a week, it can be .5.
