Ok so there I was testing my Biodiesel fuel for soap. Here is how I did it: 10mls alcohol added 10 drops blue indicator and 10gms of unwashed fuel, swirled them around to get a nice DARK blue solution. I had my 0.01 HLC already prepared. I then added 2Ml of HCL and it turned a beautiful yellow and after a few minutes it was a bright clear yellow. Here is my math 2/10*3044=608.5 or 609 PPM soap. Does this sound right. I will be washing with Magnasol so I need to make sure that the soap is correct to add the correct amount of Magnasol (1% by weight for 800 PPM or 2% for 1000 PPM.
I use 100ml alcohol and 1mL indicator. 10g of unwashed is fine, but I use 5g.
The math is correct. You get a star.
I use 1% by weight magnesol per 1000 ppm of soap. This was recommended by the Dallas group. I have also seen them recommend 1% by weight per 800 ppm of soap.
You are correct. I basically take the ppm soap I have and use that as my percentage. For instance, you found 609ppm, so I would multiply the mass of the bd by 0.609%.
Could you tell me if it is really cost effective to use Magnasol and how much is it? I know where to find it, but I would like input from those using it.
Amazing how something so simple can be so easily overlooked.
