| After some searching around for a suitable alternative to the dissolving air stone problem found when using standard aquairum airstones, I happened across these LIMEWOOD airstones in a SALT water aquarium shop. They are very inexpensive, don't dissolve, fantastic small bubbles, easy to find, have a long life and it involves very little construction time and effort. As you can see from the photos, two bubblers are hooked together with a "T" juction and some air tubing. I have clamped off the air tubes so there is little chance of them poppling off and producing large bubbles. Two bubblers seems to work fine in a 50 gallon stand-pipe wash tank with a 4W air pump. Any more bubblers in the tank and a larger air pump will be needed. It might be considered to find and use brass fittings if at all possible. I'd suggest lifting the unit out of the wash tank when not actually bubbling so the wood is not just left in the water full time. No need to keep it submerged. I found mine at a local shop, but they are fairly available online as well. "Google" them and you should find a few stores if there are no saltwater aquariums in your area. Cheers. |
