The other day on this forum I put out a request for more info re our Toyota Landcruiser 3 ltr D4D which I believe is one of the early common rail engines manufactured 2002 we bought it new 2003. I used bio (neat) in it since christmas this year but as I said in my last posting therew was a severe problem with flat spot & missing. I removed the two valves at the front of the electronic pump which is denso name. I squirted carb cleaner thro the small holes in these valves and although there was no visible sign of any contamination on either valves it rectified the problem completely.
I am surprised that there is not more info on this forum about common rail engines but I wonder if this is caused by very few people needing to use bio in these exceptionally expensive engines !!! The attitude of the specialists condem the use of bio in these engines & as one said the lubricity of the bio might be inferior but I thought bio was supposed to be 50% MORE lubricating than mineral diesel. It really is frustrating to know catagorically who is telling the truth..???? Re the fuel regulating valves I cleaned to good effect-- another specialist diesel engineer said -in any case those valves are prone to sticking even with diesel but he still remarked 'it might have been the bio that made them stick'-- I did not answer this remark but just cancelled the appointment as the problem was no more but I did say to myself FXXX BXXXXXXX BXXXXXXXs.. When the first hint of trouble ensued I changed the filter but I think a tiny bit of something got thro the filter system and then into the regulating valves which are electronic. I felt the problem was and it felt like a shortage of fuel at the pump. Apparently the Bosch system uses only one valve on the electronic pump as opposed to two on the Denso pump. I am shortly going to prove the viscosity of my bio against that of red diesel and I can easily do this. Although I'm guessing I dont think there is a vast difference between the two but I would like to know positively. I'll carry on reading the various posts re Common rails & hope to learn all I can.
