I had a customer send me these really nice pictures of his Dry Wash Tower setup.
One tower has Eco2Pure in it, the other has Thermax. They came from Arbor Biofuels Company. Here's the links to the towers: Eco2Pure: http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/ecopuretower.php Thermax Tower: http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/drywashtowers.php He hooked it up to his BioPro... He mounted it to a cart to keep it nice & portable: Here's a shot from behind: One from the pump setup: Back behind the pump: The filter setup: More here... http://biodieselpictures.com/viewtopic.php?t=639 Enjoy! -Graydon

Close...
It's actually pumped from the BioPro, through the dosing pump, and up to the top of the first tower, which has Eco2Pure in it. Then as the Bio flows through that one, on the bottom of the first tower, a tube connects it to the top of the next tower which has Thermax in it. Then, the Bio goes through the Thermax & out the bottom & you're all done. He has a lot of filters on his to ensure it catches anything along the way... I think these pictures were of it before he used it too because, yep, it's wayyyyy too clean. Give it a couple months & I'm sure he'll have it all nice & grimy looking (like the faceplate on the BioPro is...) -Graydon

-That set up would cost you about $1900.00 the way you see it pictured. But you can trim that down some with a different plumbing set up, Chad 1996 F250 SD 7.3 PSD, 2002 TC29D New Holland Tractor, 6K Diesel Generator, Heated Power Washer 'All Burnin Bio' http://arborbiofuelscompany.com/ Selling Dry Wash Columns. http://i88.photobucket.com/alb...icationGCresults.jpg |

So the 2009 National Biodiesel Conference is over and in the history books - not a huge turn out this year apparently maybe 1/3 of past participation...
However the highlights were the Biodiesel Sustainability Summit just prior to the NBB Conf., The San Francisco premier of the Josh Tickell's biodiesel documentary "FUEL" (spectacular!!!) Arbor Biofuels Company plans to sponser this film and bring it to Ann Arbor, Michigan later this Spring - we should get as many people there as possible - its very personal and inspirational... We had our miniature lead lag system there and thanks to Raften, about 10 gallons of unwashed biodiesel to run a few demonstrations on Sunday. The cool thing was one of the leading FTIR analysis companies Cognis QTA’s performed about $500 worth of biodiesel purification analysis for FREE on the demonstration samples. There unit in 2 minutes can accurately test for 15 of the ASTM test. Anyway the test results were perfect and I will post photo copies later. The technician working the QTA booth initially tested the raw crude biodiesel and his first comment was; "oh this biodiesel isn't going to pass spec." He said that because the total glycerin count was off scale high for their tester and the only parameters of the ASTM test to pass were Ester conversion, Acid Number or Acid Value and viscosity. However the post lead lag system containing Thermax Tulsion T45 BD resins passed every test except for the Acid Value which is due to the overnight soak time of the initial biodiesel... Chad and I use to recommend soaking the biodiesel overnight since that is the practice used to initiall expand the gel type resins however with the macroporous resin we simply suggest backfilling to remove air and then start pumping. Not even worrying about the gel resin in the lag bed since initially it isn't doing the work anyway and it will expand over time... Any reason why you pump through the bottom of the tank and out the top?
Rather than pumping into the top of your resin tank then letting product come out bottom. Thanks, |

Reece,
Actually the metering pump pictured above is simply attached on a bracket near the bottom of the column -- and it pumps to the top of the unit. The pump can be bracketed to the top as well however it might make the set-up a little top heavy. Our 6 inch diameter columns flow top to bottom. This particular set-up uses quick-disconnect fittings and hydraulic lines. The fully adjustable pump, feeds to the top of the Eco2Pure tower first and then out of the bottom of this column is another hose connecting it to the top of the second column. Using the Eco2Pure, you will fairly quickly have a 50% pressure drop across that column so its important that your feed pump has the ability to handle this kind of pressure and can be adjusted accordingly to maintain the proper flow rates across the lead lag system. Arh Ok I see.
Im going to be setting up a dry wash system, but using some water softener resin tanks. Just cos I get them free. Thanks for also mentioning your using of hydraulic lines. I was wondering about this too. Thanks again, |
