Arbor Biofuels has been kicking around several design concepts for the ideal Eco2Pure Towers.

They've just come up with one that really rocks!

Here's what it looks like:

They took one of their 6" Dry Wash Towers & created a new plunger tool that incorporates two mesh grids with filter media in between them mounted to a rod.

This acts as a filter to keep the fine Eco2Pure particles from going through and also acts as a removal tool when the media is spent.

They then mounted the same identical setup to a pipe that can slide down over the rod and acts like a second plunger and sits in the middle of the tower.

Media is placed between and on top of the plungers and then the tower is sealed and Biodiesel can be run through it.

Here's how it works:

Testing has gone really well so far and they said that they're going to continue to test the crap out of it to see how it holds up.

You can see more on it here:

It's looking really cool though & it seems like this will be a nice way to use Eco2Pure if you don't feel like building your own tower.

GCG & Chad will post updates as the testing continues on the design, but so far it's looking great...

They also did a really nice video of how to load a column with Eco2Pure.

They're shooting more video as time allows to show the tower in action and how to remove the spent media.

Nice looking tower. Smile How do you dispose of the used ecopure after removal? is it clasified as hazardous by the EPA?

According to EcoPure, you can actually burn the stuff (because it's wood chips).

There would be soap in there, but beyond the soap, I don't think it's an issue to just discard it.

Not sure if it's classified as a Hazmat though. The only thing "dangerous" that might be in it is residual methanol that's been pulled out of the Biodiesel when it's washed...

Check out these Before & After pics...

Impressive stuff!
Arbor said that with one pass through the stuff their soap level went from 640 ppm down to 60 ppm.

Not bad!

I would be interested in hearing from anybody who is currently using Eco2pure or Thermax, etc to dry wash biodiesel - experiences, pros, cons, etc. I'm a home brewer and have been bubble washing for a few years and thinking about switching to a dry wash technique to save water and labor and to produce a better product. I would appreciate any unbiased info you can offer.

Cheers, Dana

What's the benefit of ecopure compared to free wood chips?

I am a newbie and have been working on getting going since May of 08. I now have run 500 gal. thur my Thermax and I am geting excellent quailty bio. passes all of the tests, After I process I bubble wash for 48 to 72 hours then run thur the column. I don't understand why people water wash? But I am new to this and don't even know all of the answers? Or half of the questions. I read a lot and don't post that much. All I know is that I am getting good quailty Bio with my system?? I have a 200 Gal. car wash heater tank with a mixer shaft and 3 boat props to help mix, H20 has been my learning curve. I still have issues passing the 3/27 test, If I can keep my H2o under 5000 PPM I am O.K. Chad was a big help and they are good people to work with.

Well you got me fedex and I am confused. You said you bubble wash than wonder why people water wash. You are water washing arent you when you bubble? Also about the 5K ppm, what does that mean your finished fuel has 5k ppm.

After I settle and drain the glycern off, I tranfer to another tank and air only bubble dry, How do you water bubble? I use no water after I once settle out the glycern, The 5000 PPM of H2o is on the WVO before I process. I have been running 150 to 185 PPM of H2o on my finished Bio. Does this make sense?

I get the picture now, I am old school and water wash to remove soap but may try a polish method using a dry wash after washing and drying. Should not be needed but can't hurt. How are you testing your PPM water?

I use a water test kit that I got from Utah Biodiesel Supply on there Black Friday sale. $189.00. The best thing that I have. Every time that I use it I also do the hot pan test and compare the two, I'm getting to where I can get fairly close. It is still hard to tell within 2000 to 3000 PPM when I guess from the hot pan test, but I'm getting better. It use to be hard to tell how much H2o I was getting out by heating and settling but with this handy dandy tester we are gaining some ground. So much to learn???
