Hello all, I am tired of running hundreds of gallons of water through my fuel and want to try dry washing. I have not yet done anything with my methanol except wash it out. So, what is the simplest way to deal with getting rid of the methanol? Also, I would like to build my own towers. I know there is a lot of info. on here regarding this but if anyone wants to share some personal experience it would be appreciated. By the way, I don't know if I have ever posted anything on here before, but I sure have solved a lot of problems by you guys over the last year or so. I greatly appreciate everyone's info that has been shared on this forum. Thank You.

There are lots of threads on dry washing and the various ways of doing it - do a search on resin, magnesol, ecopure/eco2pure, and wood shavings/sawdust. Whatever method you like you can be sure its a lot less time consuming and problematic that water washing.

Heat and bubble off the meth. Do not use pvc. you will regret it. use steel. Buy it from a metal fab shop. Not a metal dealer. They will charge up to 300% more for small quantities. A fab shop will even cut for a small fee. Yous thick material. We use 7 guage for our flanges and 1/8 for the tube. Make two towers. lead for hard wood(red oak)chips and a lag for My fave Purolite PD 206. Small batchs i would make a 10 gph tower. 6 inch diameter. A meter pump is crazy expensive. Ebay is a good place to start. I like our diphram pump. its air operated and very safe. Made buy all flow. Just adjust air pressure to get the right flow. Remember try to avoid PVC. It will crack and make a huge and unsafe mess when you least expect it. Hope this helps.

My dry wash set up with pics of the mods I did for the resin beds. I have Purolite PD206 in lead/lag configuratuion but hope to get my other larger tank set up soon for wood chips, so that will be a total of 3 tanks, filtered to 10 microns after the chips, and 2 micron as a final fiter (as it is now).

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure on if heat and bubbles was the way to go, or the five percent pre-wash. I'm not sure I really want water in my fuel at all if I can help it, so the heat and evap. sounds like a winner. Do you recommend doing this in a separate tank? I actually did try the GL process the very first batch of bio I made and can remember gobs of soap stuck to everything in my processor after I was done evaporating the meth., is this normal or do I have incredibly soapy fuel.

Yea its normal - the soap drops out like a thick grease after the methanol is removed.
