I'll start looking into being able to offer it. I have a lead on it but just haven't taken it the full path.

I'm sure we could stock it too, along with Bromo Phenol as well.

We haven't had a lot of requests for it, but I'm sure it's something we could stock pretty fast.

I'll talk to Norm about it this week...

Base oil titrates at 2.5.
Process with 7.5 g/L NaOH & 20% methanol.
I typically end up with 1300 ppm soap.

I recirculate in an open top container to remove residual methanol from the raw biodiesel and then to clump the soap. After 24 hours of recirculation with the biodiesel at 60 degrees F or so I can reach in and pick up the soap pancake floating in my biodiesel.

Temperature starts at around 100 F and cools down quickly to 60 F in my shed in the winter. Got to love the solar hot water heated slab. I wonder how hot it would be in there if I actually insulated the shed...

Bioidiesel at this point is typically 150 ppm soap.

Then I pump the biodiesel through a pair of 1 micron nominal sock fitlers.

Biodiesel at this point is somewhere between 0-38 ppm. It changes color immediately when I add 1/8 mL of HCL solution.

Dry wash? I guess that is what you call it...

More lab results from a plant...

In theory, you have to be <65 ppm on your soap to meet the 5 ppm Na spec when using NaOH or sodium methoxide. We run a soap (on an automatic titrator) as well as the Na metals test several times a day. Soaps typically run 50-80 ppm. Na is generally <2 ppm. We are not sure why they don’t match up. The assumption is that there are other bases besides soap consuming the HCl and throwing the titration off. I’ve seen soaps samples well above 100 ppm passing the metals test easily.

Also, just so everyone knows we will be performing several on the spot demonstrations in booth 445 (Thermax-USA booth) so please come by take a lo0k and say hi!

We will have a miniature lead lag column set up thanks to Chad utilizing a really cool clear head metering pump so everyone can see the biodiesel coming in and going out.

These demonstrations will include pre and post testing.

Some of the test being performed for sure are Soap ppm, Total Acid Number and our New Biodiesel Percent methanol test.

And we need some help because we would also like to do a total Glycerin/glycerides test so if some one has a line on a GC or some other method please please please let us know.

A Demonstration Schedule will be posted later.
