Seven drops is not 7ml, though, if i read you correctly. Did your new oil take 3ml or 3 drops?

Raven23,
From Timay...New oil at home...3 drops to turn purple.. Guess you missed it. Timay, sorry to say it but, no, you aren't doing it right. Here is a quick run down. 1, put 10 cc of isopropanol in the beaker or whatever you use to titrate. 2, add the three drops of phenppthalein. 3, Add some of your 0.1 titration solution, drop by drop, until the iso turns pink and holds it's colour for around 20 second while you stir it. 4, now add the 1 cc of oil and shake vigourously 5, add drops of 0.1 solution , shaking between each, until you get back to the pink again. That's it. As there are around 22 drops to a cc, if you used 5 drops then you would need 4.5 + 0.25 =4.75 gramm/litre of fuel Don't worry, you will soon be titratiog like an old hand. regards dva |

Thanks DVA. I have been a bit confused about blank titration. My instructions say I should stop as soon as the solution turns pink. I found this a bit confusing. I believe this is why some of my titrations were slightly different after testing the oil a second -third -fourth time. Sometimes I add 0.1 solution until it barely turnes pink, other times I add a drop or two more to obtain a bright pink. I never knew which one was better.
Can't wait to try my next batch of oil to see if results will be more consistent. |
