I've been burning B50-B100 in my '97 Ford F-250 for 2 years now. I'm pretty good about fuel quality (3/27 test) but I recently put in a batch that had quite a bit of unconverted veggie oil (failed 3/27 - lots of drop out). The truck immediately started hacking, had no power, typical symptoms when a couple injectors stop firing.

So I pulled my injectors and sent them off to have them bench tested and cleaned. I noticed the tip of the injectors had accumulated brown resins on them similar to the brown resin that i consistently have to clean off of the electrodes of the gun in my oil burner (I burn B50-B100 in my furnace as well).

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I'm wondering if anyone else has pulled their injectors after an extended period of burning BD and whether or not they too had brown resins on the tip.

Any feedback or advise is appreciated.

David

I find it very hard to believe one batch with some drop out would cause any problems, there are lots of folks who burn straight wvo in these engines, what is your wash process like?

glycercin prewash, 2 stage processing, 5% water prewash, 3 cycles of traditional bubble washing for 8-12 hours each, bubble drying for 24 hours, 10 micron filter on the way out.

Completely irrelevant.
Transesterferication can produce glycerin if not done correctly.
There is no glycerin in vegetable oil, despite what the bd people may tell you.

Yes, a small amout of glycerin can screw up the injection pump.
It can pass through filters.

The deposits you see are a sure sign of unburned glycerin

No, not really, fall out in the 3/27 is unconverted oil, unconverted oil is SVO is it not?

Still completely irrelevant. Unless by ' lots of dropout ', ctbioman means > 25%.
Even then it would take a year before it worsened to the degree reported.
Since it was days, it's glycerin.
