Anyone on here running a 6 litre PSD on WVO? I have read a few bad things about this engine (injector leaks and EGR soot issues) I would like to hear from anyone that is running WVO or that has run WVO. Good or bad, I am looking at buying a 2006 Ford with the 6 litre PSD. The truck has 110,000 km on it and I would be installing a two tank system for WVO operation.

I know someone will disagree but the 6.0 and the 6.4 DO NOT like WVO. My son is a diesel mechanic "ford cert tech" we make Bio he has customers who use WVO and they have all suffered major repairs. Bio on the other hand no problem!

That is the truth! its kind of a catchy rhyme... NO WVO in a ford 6.0!! The 6.0 liter injectors are nothing like the 7.3psd they are very fragile and do not like wvo. There will be guys that tell you its fine they have been running it for however many miles with no problems. Unless you know how to diagnos and repair a ford 6.0 stick to dino or bio disiel period! The injectors are $300 a copy times 8 and its not a matter of if it will need them its a matter of when. Not to mention the frame rail fuel pump for $500. But that is what i have found they dont like it

I've got an '05 F250 6.0LPSD with 56K miles on it. Been running WVO off/on since 43K with no problems. Am I waiting on the "big one"? Maybe, but it hasn't happened yet. My kit is from Plant Drive; at the time I bought it they were the only company making a 6.0 kit. One very smart thing they do is never mix the diesel and WVO components. What I mean is that your WVO will never go through the diesel pump or through the diesel filter. I haven't gotten around to posting a thread on my conversion but I'll get around to it eventually.

ben the problem with your kit is the wvo still goes through the injectors which is the weakest link in the system. That is what is prone to failures and its long term not nec. just 20k that you will start to see effects like 50-100k thats when the big bills will start to pile up

Ford Cert. If the injectors are the weakest link, can they be replaced with some better lasting injectors? and what is the failure and cause? any ideas?

There are several causes of injector failure on the 6.0 One is lack of engine oil changes and the others are drops in fuel pressure and fuel quality. This is why it is so important to keep clean fuel filters in a 6.0 and run only clean astm bio or dino diesel in the truck. They do not like wvo because of the the gylcerin content of the wvo. There are really no quality replacement injectors that i am aware of at this point in time. There are regular stock replacement injectors and performance injectors but it takes alot of engine work to justify putting performance injectors in the engine. Just putting the performance injectors in a stock engine would not be good the motor would never run right.

I've heard many warnings about mixing the 6.0 and WVO but have not heard, either directly or through the various forums, any "real-life" horror stories. That being said, I'm not above being very conservative in what I do with my converted 6.0. I've increased my oil changes interval and work hard to ensure I only put "clean" WVO into my truck. I'm also a little paranoid when I am driving and every little engine sound out of the normal or drips under the truck are cause for immediate investigation. Does this take some of the fun out of driving more or less for free? Yes...but at this point I am committed.

Related note for ford_cert_tech, what does Ford recommend for changing/inspecting the fuel injectors?

What in your opinion constitutes "clean wvo"? In other words, what is your cleaning/drying process?
