1. Some sites mention a need to convert my diesel to use bio. Yet others say there is no need to convert anything. Which is the truth? I'm running a 91 7.3 IDI in a F50 You will need to replace the rubber based fuel hoses after starting the use of biodiesel. I run B100 in a 97 F250 PS with no problems other than the left bank fuel return hose went soft on me and had to be replaced. I also recently aquired a 1990 F450 with the same engine as yours and have been running B100 in it for 5000 miles with no problems. I have yet to change the hoses, but it will be done this winter. 2. I understand we can use used vo. But some have mentioned used motor oil and or tranny fluid??? Is this accurate, can we use other oils besides vo? Our engines will burn anything, it seems. People dilute motor oil, tranny fluid, cutting oil, and transformer oil. With diesel, biodiesel, regular unleaded gasoline, kerosene and jet fuel. Ask any one of them and they will swear it is the only way to go. You will eventually quit hearing them spouting their recipes, I assume it is because their ride doesn't run anymore. Biodiesel is a motor fuel recognized and defined by the EPA. It is fuel derived from organic feedstocks, basically vegetable oils and animal fats. The others are alternative fuels, not biodiesel, and are called that by people who are looking for some credability. Norman |

I run up to 80% Waste oils in my 91 E350 with the same engine. Filtering is critical, I installed an inline prefilter on the frame and went with an electric lift pump bypassing the engine mounted lift pump. I dilute with diesel, kero, naptha, stale gas, whatevers available really. I am not going to run any WMO (waste motor oil) until I finish my centrifuge however. These engines seem very tolerant of blends, I've got over 20k miles on blends with mine. I did replace my injection pump but after putting on the rebuilt I was able to tell the original pump had issues since I first bought the truck but I didn't know because it was my first diesel.
1991 OBS Ford 7.3IDI E350 cargo van. Running 50-75% WVO. 90k original miles on this former bucket truck. Looking to start or join a WVO coop in the Akron Ohio area. |

Thank You much! Looks like there is a bit more reading to do. Some of these
sites I've not seen before. 80% waste oil? That is much better than I expected. What I have in mind is a friend of mine who runs popular synthetic shop. Yes he is an Amsoil Dealer. He also does tranny, oil and gear lube changes. I"m just curious if I made a deal with him for his salvage oil... will this stuff burn decently without harming my IP anything else. Prefilter makes a lot of sense... but are you saying you 'just' filter? ***************** 91 F250 7.3 IDI 200K+ Michael |
