For some reason I seem to miss new PM messages.

I think the reason is:

I normally jump directly to the search page (recent topics):
http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tat
Firefox's typeahead feature makes it easy to pick this link out.
Unfortunately, PM's do not show up on the search page.
When you open any discussion, the system automatically jumps to the first post... so the header is ignored.
Often I scroll to the bottom to look at recent stuff, or to jump to later pages.
Anyway, the little "PM" note never shows up where I can see it.

What to do?
  • Add the PM notification to search pages.
  • Maybe scrunch things together a bit, and open pages to the title line rather than the first message.

My other annoyance is that I can't just click and jump to the last page of a discussion.
I suppose this is more or less available form other search formats, but not from the format on the recent posts:

I personally prefer the one line per topic format of this search.

What to do?
  • On multi-page discussions, put a shortcut to the pages on the search page.
For example, look at the Fiat 500 website.
About halfway down the page, you'll see a few multi-page discussions, with a quick link to each (or several of) the pages. This isn't needed for one-page discussion topics.

Oh, thinking back, I think I had run into a web page that included an apostrophe. I couldn't figure out a stable way to insert it into a hyperlink.
For example:
[URL=http://finance.yahoo.com/loans/article/106821/The-Steady-Optimist-Who-Oversaw-GM's-Decline;_ylt=AmBsNWSnJPu74nFbW.6L8E9l7ot4?sec=topStories&pos=2&asset=TBD&ccode=TBD
]Sorry, this system does not seem to like quotes in the URL, you will have to copy and paste[/URL]

This is what it looks like if you just paste it.

I don't know about other "special symbols", but I can't figure out a stable way to put a single quite into a URL.

Maybe a few additional suggestions about editing posts.
  • I like to play around with formatting a bit. A preview screen would be nice.
  • The initial screen is always too small, I have to resize. And, then get lots of wasted space at the bottom of the resized screen (using Firefox).
  • When clicking on things like smilies, they appear in the right place in the text, but the window automatically jumps to the top of the screen. Kind of annoying. Confused

Thanks for the input.

My browser (IE 6) shows new PM's on every page, so I can't say why you are having a problem with that.

I can change this. Some of the forums already have this feature, I will just apply it site wide.

I don't know what to tell you about that, I don't see how I can change it.

I was able to make the "post" page bigger, but this system does not offer a preview screen. Also can't change how the window jumps when you click on smilies, etc.
