I heard it on NPR this morning.
California legislature passed a law mandating the use of reduced carbon fuels by some percentage I don't remember. The report I heard said that blenders had to decrease the carbon content of fuels being sold through the use of alternative fuels blending.
Anyone in The Peoples Republic have any news for us?
Could be good for the Auto Manufacturers to have to re-engineer that DPF.

California's biofuel initiatives are complete bull****.

In order to get a variance to produce biodiesel you have to certify that your fuel meets both ASTM D6751 and ASTM D975. 99% of the biodiesel producers in CA use transesterification and therefore cannot meet both ASTM requirements (only B5 meets ASTM D975)yet they have self-certified their fuel as compliant up to B99.9.

The latest biofuel initiative requires all state diesel vehicles to burn at least B20, which means the state will be breaking its own law. So look for a delay in implementation. I've been looking into setting up a shop in CA and have been discussing the regulations with a prominent state senator, who flipped out when he heard that just about every company was self-certifying fuel that doesn't meet the requirements.

My goal was to simply get new legislation in the pipeline to correct the flaw, but I've been told that the attorney general is now investigating the self-certifications and the **** is going to hit the fan. It appears that within the next 6 months or so that the state is going to be pressing charges and that there will be a whole wave of biodiesel plant shutdowns.

I hope the law isn't what they are saying it is.

Carbon-Hydrogen Bonds = ENERGY
Carbon-Carbon Bonds = ENERGY

Biodiesel has essentially the same carbon content as Diesel and Gasoline.

Ethanol (partially oxidized Carbon Chains) has less carbon, and less energy by wt.

The big difference is the CARBON FOOTPRINT.
I.E. Renewable fuels have the same carbon content, but by the nature of being renewable, they have a lower carbon footprint, or at least they should have less depending on production technologies.

I didn't find the actual law, but I just hope the legislators know what they are saying.
