Graydon you just made my day go bad, lol
Yea its around the corner. We have a few samples of B100 Cold flow improvers/antigels. We'll keep updating as we find some good info. I had snow falling today at my place....looks like it's time for this again... The truck DID start though, but it took a little longer. Our temps really dropped this week. Man I hate winter! -Graydon

The sun came out & melted all the snow the next day, but for a day there it gave us all here in Northern Utah a glimpse of what's coming... http://vimeo.com/1950109 Thanks, Graydon

Got lotsa flakes on Tuesday, but it didn't stick. Temps are dropping though; below freezing the last couple nights. Tomorow I try to finish my heated fuel delivery system.

We're supposed to get icy rain and then 10" of snow on top of it tonight...pretty good chance of Ryan not going to work tomorrow.
Plus I spent all day yesterday trying to get my new-to-me, previous abandoned in a barn, snow blower tractor assembled, repaired, and running. Got the assembly done, and the running part, but the repaired is a littler lacking...one of the 4 tires is still on it and holding air...another was flat when I got it, I blew up another one putting air it in (THAT was exciting!), and I broke the valve stem off another. Just gotta mount the now-repaired tires back up, figure out why the engine is lacking in grunt, and I'll be throwing some snow! |

We had a bit of a powering, but nothing of substance. We did however get a sudden and dramatic drop in tempearture. Woke up to -20C (4 below F)this morning.
So, I took the Benz out for a ride.Left it on the main tank until the heat came up in the aux tank and then swapped it over. The windchill was -29C (20below F) so I couldn't stay at highway speeds for very long but stayed on the secondary tributaries and the temps on the primary filter stayed above freezing in spite of a head wind. All in all I do believe this winter I will be running more B100 than ever before :-). Supposed to be milder the next few days though. ![]() **My reactor/processor :B100WH.com ** Video of my system **The Colaborative Biodiesel Tutorial **B100 Heated Winter System ** Biodiesel Glycerine Soap - Make & sell soap from Biodiesel Glycerine |

The commercial fuel line heaters I've seen are very expensive so I'm thinking of trying a homemade alternative:
Buy a cheap plumbing pipe heater from the hardware store and zip tie it to the fuel line from back to front all the way to the filter. These do not get hot but are designed to keep the pipes that run under your house just above freezing. They draw very little power and most have an automatic switch that turns them on when the temperature gets near freezing. Although they are 110 I am thinking it could easily be tie into my engine block heater which we do use from time to time during the coldest days. (The upper teens at coldest - usually just the low 30s) It may also be able to run off a 110 inverter or perhaps even 12 VDC. Also, as a fun project, I've made heated clothing before that ran for hours off of a few D cell batteries and found that it really isn't difficult to make flexible heated elements. (which is why I have trouble swallowing the cost of pre-made heated fuel lines) - Chris |
