Lye water will just make a heap of soap which they can centrifuge out easily enough. Cleaning solvent with just barely enough glycerine mixed to colour it up on the other hand ... You ever try to get cleaning solvent out of your oil ? Ain't gonna happen. Doesn' even have to be a full drum; a half with do. They'll figure you won't be around or have already been around and suck that baby dry (which is what you want) ** 7 engines on B100**My reactor/processor :B100WH.com **The Colaborative Biodiesel Tutorial **Make Biodiesel.org ** Veggie Energy 4 Diesels -a Newcomer's Hardware Guide ** Biodiesel Glycerine Soap - Make & sell soap from Biodiesel Glycerine |

Yesterday I went to town to pick up my oil.I bought Par-Kans 300gal. bins for containers. One sits next to a big rendering companys bin.It was bone dry when I removed the lid. They pick up and dump into the truck.I use a pump to pick up oil.If I had a metal lid that was locked as well as no way for them to pick up my can then they can not steal my oil.Now I must admit that I had some bad thoughts at first, but we can not start acting like them. That will make us as bad as them.Lock up your oil containers becouse I think it will get much worse soon.

Madmatt, I understand your sentiment, but that is not a fair statement.
I don't think that adding "stuff" to YOUR barrel to teach a lesson AND prevent recurrence is not even close to being as wrong as someone STEALING your oil. Luckily, I pick all my oil up in cubies, but if someone was stealing from me and I cannot count on the justice system to help, then I'll do what is Legally appropriate, thank you... and that does not make me as bad as a thief... |

wal1809:
Don't for a second think that your darling renderer (lol) is done with you. I have a friend who started a collection business a few years ago. He was the first in the area to pay for oil. Many of the accounts he took over went back to the other guy because they offer 2 or even 3 times the amount, which is more than my buddy sells it for. They do this to try and break the little guy. Their pockets are very deep and they just don't care. The few establishments that I collect from treat me just fine and I have no problem with the big guy. I use 15 gallon carboys that can be picked up by hand. They are kept indoors. No food, no water, no grill crap, only WVO. When they are full, they call and I pick them up pronto and leave nice clean empties. I choose to deal with smaller fish when it comes to getting WVO. They are usually the one's that still have to pay for disposal. Also, the restaurants seem to like my system better. They move the carboy near the fryer and use a pot and a funnel to fill it. No lugging 5 or 10 gallons in a pot through the parking lot sometimes in the dark, or rain, or snow and dumping it in a barrel. Just ask legal about slip/fall, an employer's nightmare. It's all about what you can do for the employer and their workers, not really the $$$. If they really need the $40 their getting, then they are not financially healthy and don't give a crap about anything. In fact, their food is probably crappy too! Good luck. |

madmatt, you're a good man....And I agree with your ethics.
My ruler, "do unto others as you would HAVE them do unto you"... If I was a thief, I'd know I was doing wrong, and would expect resistance/justice/retribution/ what have you.... |

Matt, you know email is so hard sometimes to get a meaning across. I think you mis-understood me. I believe we are on the same side. I did not say to steal there oil, that is not legal and not ethical. But if they would be stealing my oil, and if I chose to put "junk" in MY barrel to make it less desirable for a return "helpin", that is NOT illegal, not unethical, and is NOT being like them. It is protecting MY interest and investment. There, I think I've stated this as best I can, so I will not comment any further on this topic.

irokj5 I am with you in that its hard to get a point acrose somtimes on the forum. Yes we are on the same side and its great to talk with other like minded people. When you drive to town set up to pick up oil and to come home with 45gl. when it should be 150gl.or more thats a bad day. I was and am mad about it and should have cooled off before posting. I have a lot invested in containers and to come home with so little becouse of theft sucks. Madmatt |
