Hi all as you will probably find out I am brand new to this and I am sure it will show.

My water supply is metered so I would like to know if its possible to re-use the water used for washing.

Could be a hundred liters at a go so well worth saving.

I’ll believe global warming is a crisis when the people who say it’s a crisis start acting like it’s a crisis!

There is a way to filter water using what is called a "grey water system" from what I understand, although you may want to have a serious look at dry washing using ion exchange resin, such as Purolite PD 206 or some such. It eliminates water use altogether while only adding a cent or two to the per litre production cost. Will filtering, heating and metered water use surpass 1P or so to the litre ? (never mind the time gained by dry washing)then dry wash is the way to go. A bit of expense at the onset to set up, but after that, like building a reactor set up, you're good to go. Resin has to be changed occasionally, but for teh average homebased producer this isn't a amjor concern as it last a fairly long time. Time which is determined by how much the resin needs to do.
At the end of this week I am finalising my Purolite system and starting to dry wash using a lead and lag system. Once I get it going I will post results in teh dry wash section as well as on my own website (in the sig lilne)

Virtually everything that comes from biodiesel production, except for the inorganics, is biodegradable.

This includes the biodiesel, soaps, methanol, glycerol, mono- di- and tri-glycerides.

These compounds are also biodegradable in a reasonable time frame of days, weeks, and months. This is much better than compounds that take months, years, and centuries to decompose, but are still referred to as "bio-degradable".

But, be cautious. All of these compounds require some time to degrade. If some of the compounds are not dilute enough, then placing them directly on the ground may cause a local "hotspot" where vegetation dies. This is one reason why the "eco-system" Legal Eagle mentioned in his post is very important.

one thing that should do the trick is a residential reverse osmosis system, have two tanks for your wash water, and in between batches filter between your gray, and clean water tanks topping off as nesesary. to do this you might need a higher pressure pump, as there is some backpressure with most r/o systems
