When running the Appleseed, should it be run enclosed (all valves closed no air in or out). Or should it be allowed to release fumes etc. My first batch failed so I'm trying to make adjustments etc.

Thanks.

James,

Leave a vent open all the time, even when it's not in use. Just make sure you route the vent so that it dumps outside your workspace. It will only emit methanol when your loading it with liquids and when your heating (maybe).

If I had read a little more, I would have found my answer. The Appleseed required venting to the outside.

thanks.

James,

My $0.02, take a look at making your appleseed with the GL add-ons such as the venturi and the methanol recovery unit.

My appleseed vent is the methanol recovery still. Having these two add-ons allows me to recover precious methanol from the biodiesel as well as from collected batches of glycerol.
